Spanish player Pablo Carreño Busta, currently World No. 16, confirms his participation in the AnyTech365 Andalucía Open 2021.
It’s not the first time that the Gijon player plays a high-level match on the Puente Romano Beach Resort courts, since he won an important point for Spain together with Feliciano López in the Davis Cup tie played in Marbella against Great Britain in 2018.
“I’m very happy to be able to return to Marbella. The last time I played there was in 2018, a Davis Cup tie with Spain, precisely in the same facilities. I have very good memories for that weekend.”
To date, he is the Spanish with the best ranking of all those confirmed, placing him as one of the favorites in order to be able to leave at home the first title of the clay court European tour.
“It’s a great opportunity to be able to start the European clay court tour at home and supported by our audience that helps us so much on the court, we miss it a lot, so I appreciate the effort to carrying out new tournaments with the current situation.”
In the last Australian Open he reached the third round against Grigor Dimitrov, where he had to drop out due to physical problems in the abdominal, which won’t be an impediment to be able to play the Marbella tournament.
The Gijon player reached the World ‘Top-10’ at the end of 2017, after reaching the US Open semifinals, his best Grand Slam round, which he got again in 2020 on the same Flushing Meadows courts.
Pablo Carreño is one of the most versatile players on the ATP Tour, and this is reflected in his 4 singles ATP titles and the 4 in doubles category throughout his career, both on hard and clay surface, to which we must add the Davis Cup won with Spain in 2019.
