Jaume Munar and Carlos Alcaraz revolutionize the day at the AnyTech365 Andalucía Open. Both tennis players get outstanding victories against two Top Seeds and take a step forward in the Marbella tournament. Casper Ruud (3) and Ilya Ivashka complete the quarter-finals.
The Spanish Jaume Munar get a place into to the quarterfinals, he defeated No.2 Top Seed, Fabio Fognini, by two sets to love. Munar confirms his great form in Marbella, he was runner-up last week here (Challenger 80).
His rival for a place into the semifinals will be Ilya Ivashka. He won his match against the local and No.5 Top Seed, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 6-1; 6-3 was the final result.
The last match of the day was 100% spanish. The No. 6 Top Seed, Feliciano López, faced the 17-year-old, Carlos Alcaraz. The victory was for the Young tennis player by 4-6; 6-2; 6-4 and represents his first quarterfinals in an ATP 250 tournament.
Norwegian Casper Ruud will be the player he faces in the next round. The No.3 Top Seed beat the Challenger 80 champion, Gianluca Mager, by 6-3 6-2.
NYS/PUETZ VS. BEHAR/ESCOBAR AND AREVALO/MIDDELKOOP VS. BRKIC/CACIC, DOUBLES SEMIFINALS OF THE ANYTECH365 ANDALUCÍA OPEN
The AnyTech365 Andalucía Open doubles draw already knows its four semi-finalist teams: Hugo Nys and Tim Puetz, Ariel Behar and Gonzalo Escobar, Marcelo Arevalo and Middelkoop, as well as Tomislav Brkic and Nikola Cacic. Eight names will fight for the trophy.
This Thursday, three teams pass to semifinals (Tomislav Brkic and Nikola Cacic get the pass on Wednesday). The first one was Ariel Behar and Gonzalo Escobar, they beat Andre Goransson and Nicholas Monroe by 6-4 and 7-5.
In the semifinals they will face Hugo Nys and Tim Puetz who defeated the Spanish duo, David Marrero and Adrián Menéndez-Maceiras by 6-4; 6-0.
Another team in penultimate round were Marcelo Arevalo and Matwe Middelkoop. The 3rd Top Seeds defeated the Mexican couple Santiago González and Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela by 6-3 and 6-2. His rivals for a place in the final will be Tomislav Brkec and Nikola Cacic.
QUARTERS ON COURT
The order of play for Friday in the AnyTech365 Andalucía Open shows all-quarterfinals on court. Tennis will start at 11am on the Manolo Santana court. The first match is No.4 Top Seed, Albert Ramos, against Norbert Gombos.
Right after that match, Jaume Munar will face Ilya Ivashka. The 1st Top Seed, Pablo Carreño Busta, will play against Soonwoo Kwon (7).
In addition, on court 1, the first doubles semifinal Marcelo Arevalo and Matwe Middelkop against Tomislav Brkic and Nikola Cacic.
The closing match on central court is Casper Ruud (3) versus Carlos Alcaraz.
